Madrid, August 2 – Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced on Thursday that the national emergency declared for wildfires in the province of Ávila and the Madrid region is being terminated. He said fire activity in those zones has largely been brought under control.
The decision followed consultations with regional officials and technical experts at the emergency command centre in Navaluenga. Management of the situation will now revert to regional governments under a Level‑2 operational status.
While the majority of the blaze‑affected areas have seen a decline, pockets of active fire persist elsewhere in the country, fueled by a new heat wave and strong winds.
