South Sudan UN Base Hit; Two Peacekeepers Killed, Seven Injured

A sudden attack on a United Nations camp in Jonglei, South Sudan, left two peacekeepers dead and seven people wounded, according to a statement released by the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS). The victims included three fellow peacekeepers, two members of the South Sudan National Police Service, and two civilian staff.

The UN characterised the assault as a possible violation of international humanitarian law and warned that such acts could be classified as war crimes. In response, a quick reaction force has been mobilised to reinforce security and aid emergency medical services.

India, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, described the attack as "abhorrent" and urged the international community to ensure the safety of UN personnel. New Delhi called for an immediate, transparent probe and for the perpetrators to face trial under international legal standards.
