Sochi Coastal Blast Injures Eight, Sparks Fire; Ukraine Claims Retaliatory Strike

On Wednesday, an unmanned boat attributed to Ukrainian forces detonated near the Sochi waterfront, causing a fire that damaged a portion of the Primorsky embankment and left eight people with injuries. The Kuban Emergency Response Center said five victims were taken to hospitals, while three received treatment at the scene.

President Volodymyr Zelensky posted on social media that Ukrainian troops had struck a naval base in the southern Krasnodar region, specifically targeting oil‑loading terminals, a military harbour and warships carrying Kalibr cruise missiles. He framed the operation as a coordinated retaliation involving Ukraine’s security services, autonomous system units, navy, intelligence and border guards.

The Russian Defence Ministry responded by outlining a series of Ukrainian attacks across the country, naming strikes on military‑industrial facilities in Kyiv, fuel and lubricant depots in Mykolaiv, and a cargo ship en route to the Odesa port. A logistics centre at the Starokozache border post, a critical supply corridor to Ukraine, was also reported hit.

Emergency crews are still securing the Sochi site, assessing structural damage and ensuring the safety of civilians in the surrounding area.
