Smart Border Checks Ease Cross‑Border Flow at Shenzhen Bay Port
Shenzhen Bay Port, strategically placed near Hong Kong International Airport and tied to the Guangzhou‑Shenzhen‑Yanjiang Expressway and the Shenzhen‑Chongshan link, has emerged as a linchpin for the Greater Bay Area’s cross‑border traffic. The port recorded more than 50 million passenger movements by 6 November, marking an unprecedented year‑to‑date total.
The “one‑hour living circle” concept is reshaping travel patterns, prompting Hong Kong and Macau residents to journey north for family gatherings and vacations, while mainland travelers head south for shopping and leisure. Continuous international fairs, including the APEC China Year series and the Canton Fair, have kept foreign tourists and business delegations arriving in force.
Inspection volumes rose sharply in the first three quarters—passenger checks up 21 percent and vehicle checks up 32 percent—pressuring authorities to maintain fluid operations. In response, the Shenzhen Bay Border Inspection Station has centered its efforts on building a smart port, integrating cutting‑edge technology with duty‑free coordination to streamline passenger clearance and reduce waiting times.
