Sindh’s Education Offices Struggle Amid Ongoing Electricity Blackouts

The Sindh Education Department has been operating under near‑standstill conditions for almost three weeks because of persistent electricity blackouts. All electricity invoices have been cleared and the department has lodged several complaints with K‑Electric, yet the power cuts persist.

The affected bodies include the General Directorate of Colleges Sindh, Regional Directorate of Government Colleges Sindh, General Directorate of Private Institutions Sindh and the Regional Directorate of Private Schools Karachi. Office hours are repeatedly interrupted as load‑shedding deprives staff of functional computers, internet access and printing services. Consequently, online school registrations, issuance of digital certificates, grievance resolution and public college admissions are all delayed.

The Directorate of Inspection and Registration of Private Institutions on Burns Road reports the greatest difficulties, with employees forced to navigate daily tasks amid unpredictable electricity. Reliable power is only available from 11 am to 2 pm; after 4 pm the supply is again cut.

According to a deputy director of inspection, the constant outages cripple the department’s modern online systems, preventing timely completion of official work. The officials have pressed for uninterrupted electricity during working hours and an urgent fix to the technical issues.
