Sindh-Balochistan Water Dispute Escalates Over Alleged Diversion

Tensions between Sindh and Balochistan over water allocations rose sharply on July 18, after Balochistan ministers joined farmers protesting at Sukkur Barrage. The ministers alleged that Sindh is diverting water that rightfully belongs to Balochistan, aggravating a long‑standing shortage that has hurt agricultural output.

The claim centers on the claim that water from the Khirthar Canal (2,400 cubic feet per second) and the Pat Fedder Canal (6,700 cusec) is not being fully delivered to Balochistan as stipulated by the 1991 water agreement. Farmers from Larkana division have united with their Baloch counterparts to demand immediate corrective action.
