Senior Counsel Argues for Extension, Solicitor General Opposes in Tejpal Case

Kapil Sibal told the court that the Bombay High Court had already granted Tejpal a four‑week period to surrender on August 6. He highlighted that Tejpal has spent most of the trial on bail, is now a senior citizen, and cited the Supreme Court (Criminal Appeal Jurisdiction Extension) Act, 1970 to support a hearing on the waiver application. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta countered, stating that no hearing can take place until Tejpal surrenders or is granted relief, and that the 1970 Act does not apply to this matter.
