Senegal's President Meets Chinese Envoy Cao Chitan in Dakar

Beijing, November 1

Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye held a meeting in Dakar on Saturday with Cao Chitan, the special envoy of Chinese President Xi Jinping. The meeting took place on the same day as the opening ceremony of the Fourth Youth Olympic Games, which Cao attended at the invitation of the Senegalese government.

During the discussion, Cao passed on President Xi Jinping's sincere best wishes to President Faye. Cao is also the Director-General of the China National Sports Bureau.

Cao underlined China's strong interest in the development of relations with Senegal and with Africa as a whole. He said Beijing wants to further consolidate the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

Cao added that the Olympic movement serves as an important force for peace, unity and inclusiveness. He said China is ready to make greater contributions, using this platform, toward building a China-Africa community with a shared future in the new era, one that supports each other in all circumstances.

President Faye asked Cao to convey his regards to President Xi Jinping and thanked Xi for sending a special envoy to the event.

Praising the bilateral relationship, President Faye said China is one of Senegal's most important partners. He expressed appreciation to President Xi and the Chinese government for their long-term cooperation and support, both for Senegal's economic and social progress and for the organisation of the Youth Olympic Games.
