Senators demand reversal of Trump’s diesel import decision, cite national security

Republican senators Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), Susan Collins (Maine), Thom Tillis (North Carolina) and John Curtis (Utah) joined Democratic colleagues Jean Shaheen, Ron Wyden and Richard Blumenthal in a joint statement urging the administration to rescind the diesel import policy. They argued that the move undermines national security and provides revenue to Russia, which could prolong the war in Ukraine.

Murkowski referenced the recently signed Public Law 119‑111, which authorizes up to a 100% surcharge on nations purchasing Russian crude and related energy products, while allowing exemptions for national interest. The senators called for immediate action to halt the diesel deal.
