Semiconductor and Quantum Collaboration Agreed in Brussels Talks

Brussels hosted the third session of the India‑European Union Trade and Technology Council on July 15, with India represented by Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and Electronics & IT Minister Jitendra Prasad. The council, created in 2022, serves as a platform to jointly address trade, trusted technology and security issues.

Both sides reiterated that India and the EU, as the world’s largest democracies, share open‑economy principles, common values and diverse societies, making them natural strategic partners in a volatile global environment. The leaders recalled the 16th India‑EU summit in New Delhi on January 27, 2026, where they pledged to lift their partnership to a new level.

During the meeting, the parties committed to deepen digital collaboration under Working Group‑1, focusing on strategic technology, digital administration and connectivity. They agreed to push forward technical work on Digital Trust Services to make cross‑border interaction smoother.

A major breakthrough was the decision to craft a practical cooperation framework for semiconductors, alongside the sharing of best practices for artificial intelligence usage. The dialogue also opened the door for expanded joint work in high‑performance computing, quantum technologies and the fast‑track development of 6G standards. Efforts to ease the movement of skilled ICT workers were also highlighted.

The ministers emphasized that as trade and technology converge, the TTC will continue to serve as a pivotal channel for coordinated action, fostering global stability, economic security and sustainable, innovation‑driven growth.
