Selective Pharma Items from India Get Duty‑Free Status in US

In a move aimed at easing the cost of high‑price therapies, the United States has granted a zero‑tariff rate to a select group of Indian pharmaceutical products. The list comprises orphan drugs for rare conditions, nuclear‑based medicines, plasma‑based products, fertility solutions, cell and gene therapies, and antibody‑drug conjugates.

The decision coincides with the upcoming enforcement of a 100 % tariff on a set of patented medicines and their active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) slated for September 29. The duty exemption applies solely to the items identified in the President’s earlier announcement.

Besides India, the list includes nations like Argentina, Japan, South Korea, and the United Kingdom, each meeting the required trade‑security agreements with Washington.
