Security Tightens as Imran Khan Returns to Adiala Jail Post‑Checkup
A massive security operation surrounded the Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad on the night of 20‑21 August as former prime minister Imran Khan was taken for a medical examination. The Information Minister, Atallah Tarar, reported that a team of specialists at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) examined Khan while his sister was present, and declared him medically fit.
After the assessment, Khan was escorted back to Adiala jail early on 21 August under a heavy security cordon. Police reports indicated that roughly 800 security personnel, including police, paramilitary and private guards, were deployed along the routes to the hospital and around the facility. The deployment echoed the extensive security measures previously seen during the investigation of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
The Supreme Court had ordered the government to shift Khan to a hospital within two days, prompting the rapid arrangement of the medical check‑up and the subsequent return to detention.
