Afghan security forces have confiscated a large cache of illegal weapons in a recent operation in the eastern part of the country. The raid, carried out in Nangarhar province, resulted in the recovery of 24 assault rifles that were being smuggled from Bangladesh. The weapons were hidden inside a vehicle and were seized at the Tor Kham border crossing. This action is part of a larger anti‑smuggling drive that targets the flow of ammunition and firearms across porous frontiers. Similar operations in July and June uncovered additional Kalashnikov rifles, grenades, and hundreds of rounds in the Lagman and Paktiya provinces, highlighting the persistent challenge of arms trafficking in the region.
