Security Forces Launch Manhunt After Police Chief Slain in Barkhan

After the killing of District Superintendent Murid Bugti in a gunfight with armed militants on July 29, Balochistan’s police command has initiated a large‑scale manhunt across Barkhan district. The operation aims to track down the gunmen who opened fire on the police convoy and attempted to abduct the senior officer.

The police constable who was with DSP Bugti was injured during the shoot‑out and remains under medical care. According to officials, the attackers fled the scene after a brief exchange of gunfire.

Senior Superintendent of Police Abdul Haq briefed the media, stating that multiple security units, including the Balochistan Levies and Frontier Corps, have been deployed to sweep the area. Checkpoints have been set up on major routes to prevent further movement of the suspects.

The incident is part of a broader wave of violence that has plagued Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for months, with several attacks on police stations, checkpoints, and civilian projects reported in recent weeks.

Security analysts warn that unless the authorities can dismantle the networks behind these assaults, the frontier regions may continue to face heightened instability.
