During the open Security Council discussion on natural‑resource management, Guterres argued that illegal activities and lack of transparency in mineral supply chains fuel conflict and inequality. He urged stronger legal frameworks, traceability mechanisms and information sharing among producing, transit and consuming states. The Secretary‑General said that without coordinated action, illegal mining will continue to fund armed groups, prolonging violence and instability.
