Scientific Collaboration Targets Improved Yak Breeds in Qinghai's Nagari

Gerze County is deepening its partnership with the Qinghai Autonomous Region's Academy of Agricultural Sciences to conduct advanced research on wild‑blood yak genetics. The collaboration will map germplasm and DNA markers of the local yak population, which totals 5,271 individuals as of 2025, including 535 kept at the county's breeding farm. The farm celebrated the birth of 42 calves during the year, indicating successful breeding protocols. The joint effort aims to develop new yak varieties that raise productivity, improve meat and milk quality, and support the broader livestock development goals of the Nagari region.
