Saudi Air Defenses Intercept Houthi Missile Over Riyadh

Saudi Arabia confirmed that its integrated air‑defence network intercepted a ballistic missile launched by the Yemen‑based Houthi movement toward the capital, Riyadh. The missile was destroyed in mid‑air, preventing any damage to the city.

The interception came after the Houthi spokesman announced that two separate operations had been carried out: the first targeting “sensitive locations” in Riyadh, and the second focusing on an oil facility in Yanbu. The group claimed both missions were successful and resulted in large fires at the struck sites.

Following the explosions, smoke was observed near King Khalid International Airport, causing brief disruptions to commercial flights. Saudi officials later lifted the air‑raid alert, stating that the threat had subsided.

The incident is part of a wider pattern of retaliation that intensified after a July clash at Sana International Airport, where Saudi forces attempted to block an Iranian‑backed aircraft carrying a senior Houthi delegation. Since then, the Houthi faction has repeatedly warned of continued missile and drone strikes unless Saudi aerial campaigns over Yemen cease.
