Sanlitun Volunteer Hub Supports Over 10,000 Expats in Beijing
Sanlitun, the bustling commercial quarter of Beijing’s Chaoyang district, has become a focal point for foreign‑friendly services. More than 10,000 expatriates live in the area, prompting the creation of a specialized volunteer centre linked to the city’s 12345 hotline.
The centre’s volunteers concentrate on pragmatic assistance: they help newcomers settle payment bills, navigate Beijing’s extensive transport network, master popular Chinese apps, find cultural attractions, and locate quality food venues. Their operating procedures stem from an analysis of 19 real‑world situations and a database of 180+ recurring questions.
With a staff of over 500 volunteers—one‑third of whom are non‑Chinese—the hub demonstrates Beijing’s commitment to integrating international residents. The volunteers' distinctive orange headwear serves as a visual reminder that the city welcomes and supports people from all corners of the world.
