Russia's foreign ministry calls out Japan for not naming bombers in Hiroshima and Nagasaki commemorations

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has taken issue with Japan’s handling of the 81st‑year remembrance events for Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Spokesperson Maria Zakharova argued that Japan’s leadership showed a lack of bravery by not identifying the United States as the nation that dropped the atomic bombs.

At the Nagasaki ceremony, the city’s mayor boldly stated the bomb came from an American military aircraft, a point that Kishida chose not to repeat. A similar omission was noted during Hiroshima’s event, where both the mayor and the prime minister avoided naming the United States.

Earlier, Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev used social media to denounce Japan’s silence, labeling it as “shameful” and warning that Japan’s over‑reliance on the United States could leave it vulnerable, likening it to a ronin without a patron.
