Russia Targets Kyiv University Area; Casualties and Rescue Efforts
Russian ballistic missiles hit a university campus and its surroundings in Kyiv on Monday night, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky. The strikes killed some people and injured others, and emergency teams are working at the site.
Zelensky reported the attack through a post on X. He named the university campus, Kyoto Park, the area near a metro station and nearby residential buildings as places affected by the missiles.
The president said the total number of casualties has not been confirmed. He acknowledged, however, that some people had died and several had been hurt. Relief and rescue operations remain active.
He added that the missiles fell in areas where many people live and gather. According to him, no military facility was located nearby, and the attack was carried out directly against the city and its civilian services.
Zelensky stated that the damage is extensive. Some individuals may be stuck beneath the rubble, he said, while all emergency services have been deployed to save lives.
The president also warned that additional attacks are possible. In the meantime, Shahed drones continue to strike Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities and communities.
He argued that delays in supplying air defense systems to Ukraine contribute to terror, particularly when towns and villages face the risk of attack at any moment. He called for political agreements to be implemented without delay.
Ukraine's position is that partner countries must grasp that it needs the means and defense equipment to destroy Russian ballistic missile launchers. Zelensky said this would be the most effective method of saving lives.
He said the world should recognize that Russia is determined to keep fighting and to take lives. Ukraine should not have to bear this burden alone, and Zelensky placed full responsibility for the war and civilian deaths on Russia.
He concluded by urging citizens to protect their safety and asking partner countries to stand with Ukraine in supporting efforts to save lives.
