The cycle of brutality against Hindus in Bangladesh shows no signs of abating, with a prominent trader falling victim to a ruthless robbery-murder in Trishal. Sushen Chandra Sarkar, 62, who operated MS Bhai-Bhai Enterprises in Mymensingh’s Trishal sub-district, was hacked to death Monday evening at Bogor Bazar crossing.
According to family accounts, the attackers ransacked the shop, seizing lakhs in cash before fleeing. They left Sarkar’s body inside the locked premises, only discovered later by relatives who found him in a pool of blood and rushed him to hospital—too late to save him.
‘Our family business thrived without rivals, yet they showed no mercy,’ lamented son Sujan Sarkar. Police OC Mohammad Firoz Hossain detailed the assault: around 11 PM, sharp weapons ended Sarkar’s life, followed by the shop being secured to delay discovery.
Coming mere days before polls, this tragedy amplifies fears for Bangladesh’s minorities. Since the interim regime under Yunus assumed control, attacks on Hindus have escalated, drawing global outrage and India’s pointed warnings last month about the disturbing trend.
Authorities promise investigations, but skeptics question the will to curb such violence. For families like Sarkar’s, justice remains elusive amid a backdrop of impunity. The international community watches closely, pressing for safeguards to prevent further bloodshed in this troubled nation.
