Rescue Teams Respond to Swabi Roof Collapse Amid Torrential Rains

Rescue 1122 responded swiftly to a roof collapse in Swabi's Topi tehsil after heavy monsoon rains battered the region on August 20. The incident, which occurred in the Azadkhel neighbourhood, trapped a father and his daughter beneath debris. Both victims, identified as Mohammad Farooq, 50, and his 28‑year‑old daughter, were pronounced dead at the scene.

According to spokesperson Lukman Khan, residents heard the crushing sound, rushed to the location, and notified emergency services. The rescue crew arrived within minutes, extracting the surviving family members – the mother and son – who were rushed to the tehsil headquarters hospital in critical condition.

The storm also led to the partial failure of a bank structure in Swabi, though no casualties were reported. Over the past 24 hours, rescue teams have evacuated more than 300 individuals from flood‑affected zones and rescued nine people from nearby Zarandoo Nala and Azamabad checkpoints.

The provincial weather bureau continues to advise caution, forecasting heavy rain and potential urban flooding in Swabi and other districts until at least August 21.
