Rescue teams battle terrain after passenger bus falls into gorge

Emergency responders faced a daunting challenge when a passenger bus plunged into a deep gorge near Dera Ismail Khan on Friday. The bus, en route from Sherani’s Dhan Sar area toward Peshawar, fell into a ravine that measured around 80 feet in depth.

Teams from KP Rescue 1122, along with the Jhab emergency service, arrived at the scene within minutes. The uneven, rocky terrain slowed their progress, but they managed to pull eight injured passengers to safety and transport them to the district headquarters hospital for treatment.

Medical staff reported that 40 of the bus’s occupants could not be revived. The dead were initially moved to a nearby rural health centre before being handed over to the main hospital for final processing.

The Balochistan chief minister directed that all possible resources be allocated for a rapid rescue, and an investigative committee was formed to ascertain the precise cause of the mishap. Authorities have pledged support to the families of the victims.
