Rescue Ongoing as Avalanche Claims Four Lives at Himlung Base Camp
Rescue operations continue at Nepal's Himlung Base Camp after an avalanche killed four people and left twelve still missing, a Manang district official confirmed. The District Chief, Mukti Prasad Khanal, said two bodies reached Kathmandu, while the other two were air‑lifted to the district headquarters in Chamé. Estimates suggest that 27 trekkers, guides and support staff were present at the camp when the avalanche struck. Contact has been regained with eleven of the disappeared. Helicopters have been flying in and out of the area since Monday morning, and a recent improvement in weather has helped teams reach previously inaccessible spots. The tragedy mirrors a larger disaster that unfolded a month earlier when a glacial outburst caused a flood along the Nepal‑China border, resulting in more than 1,400 deaths.
