Rescue Operations Continue After Boat Tilt in Vietnam

Rescue operations are still underway following the capsizing of a tourist boat near Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam, that claimed 15 lives and left 21 injured. The incident occurred at around 1 p.m. when a speedboat owned by Ocean Pearl Island Co. suffered a sudden technical fault and rolled over.

Local authorities, supported by border guard personnel, navy vessels, and coast guard units, have deployed 35 officers and two ships to aid the emergency response. The victims include a mixture of Indian tourists, a tour guide, and crew members.

The Indian Embassy in Hanoi confirmed that a control centre has been set up both in Hanoi and at the Commercial Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City to gather information and assist affected families. Hospitals in the vicinity are currently treating the rescued passengers.

While the precise cause of the malfunction is still being investigated, officials urge tourists to verify the safety credentials of charter operators, especially when heading to renowned diving locations such as Me Ruet Ngoai island, famed for its crystal‑clear waters and coral formations.
