Reporter Bulbul Hussain Injured After Police Van Attack in Dhaka

Bulbul Hussain, a correspondent for Global Television, was seriously injured when Dhaka police officers allegedly seized him, placed him in a police van and assaulted him. Hussain was covering a clash between Islamic student camp participants and Bangladesh Nationalist Party members when he saw officers assaulting a woman.

He tried to record the incident, refused to delete the footage and identified himself as a journalist. Police then reportedly struck his head repeatedly, dropped him on the van floor and pressed a boot against his chest, attempting to suffocate him.

After the attack, Hussain was taken to Dhaka Medical College where doctors documented injuries to his skull, eyes and chest. He has filed a written complaint with the DMP commissioner seeking disciplinary action against the involved officers.
