Report of Chinese-made air defense launchers for Iran meets Trump skepticism

Washington – President Donald Trump reacted with disappointment after media reports surfaced claiming China was ready to supply Iran with Chinese‑manufactured man‑pad air‑defence missile launchers. In an Oval Office briefing, Trump referenced a prior conversation with President Xi Jinping, stating that Xi had unequivocally told him China would stay out of any such military transaction.

The alleged deal involves around 400 launchers capable of being shoulder‑fired, intended to reinforce Iran’s aerial defenses amid its ongoing dispute with the United States. Sources cited by Reuters indicated the shipment would originate in the western Chinese city of Urumqi, travel through Pakistan, and finally arrive in Iran, though the exact mode of transport—air or road—remains uncertain.

When asked about the credibility of these claims, Trump said, "It would be shocking if it were true, and I would be very disappointed." He also reminded that President Xi is scheduled to visit the United States on September 24, hinting at a possible discussion on the matter.

The Pakistani military’s media wing dismissed the reports as wholly fabricated, calling them false and without any supporting evidence.
