Relief Camps Sheltering Thousands as Weather Crisis Persists

In response to the ongoing monsoon crisis, the Philippines' disaster management council has set up 86 relief camps across affected regions. These facilities are now home to 2,200 families, which translates to roughly 7,300 people seeking safety from floods, landslides, and storm damage.

An extra 1,132 families—about 3,700 individuals—remain outside the official shelters, relying on community support and improvised arrangements. The authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, urging residents to stay alert and follow safety guidelines.

The Department of Weather and Climate has warned that the southwest monsoon will keep delivering heavy rains to Metro Manila and the surrounding Luzon provinces for the foreseeable future. Rapid-onset flooding and landslide risks remain high, especially in Ilocos Sur, La Union, Abra, Benguet, Zambales, Batangas, and Occidental Mindoro. Light showers and gusty winds are also expected in parts of Visayas and Mindanao, prompting continuous readiness across the nation.
