Rapid rise in dengue cases strains Bangladesh hospitals, 805 admissions in a day

Bangladeshi hospitals are under pressure as dengue admissions surge. In a 24‑hour period ending Sunday morning, 805 new dengue patients were admitted nationwide, and three more deaths were recorded, bringing the cumulative fatality figure to 70 for 2026.

The Directorate General of Health Services stated that, since January, a total of 23,978 dengue cases have been admitted. Of these, 22,159 patients have recovered and left the hospitals, while 1,749 remain under observation. During the same reporting window, 701 patients were discharged after completing their treatment.

Chattogram district, a known hotspot, logged 361 cases in the first eleven days of August, reflecting the typical July‑October escalation pattern. Health officials warn that continuous monsoon showers are creating optimal conditions for Aedes mosquito breeding, driving the steep increase in infections.
