In preparation for the National Day holiday, Chinese rail operators are deploying an extra 2,324 trains to cope with an anticipated 24.8 million passengers on October 1. The previous day’s traffic of 19.5 million travelers set the stage for a steep rise in demand. Popular departure cities such as Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Chengdu, and Wuhan are seeing a surge in ticket sales, while arrival traffic will be concentrated in the same metropolitan hubs. To prevent bottlenecks, railway departments have increased service frequency on high‑volume routes and expanded handling capacity at major stations during peak periods.
