Passengers Disrupted as Quantas Cancels Perth‑Rome Return Over Bedbugs

A Qantas flight en route from Perth to Rome encountered a bedbug problem in its economy section, forcing the airline to pull the aircraft from service after it arrived in Italy. The infestation was identified on 9 October, and the airline immediately ordered a comprehensive cleaning of the cabin. Because the cleaning took longer than anticipated, the airline had to cancel the scheduled return flight from Rome to Perth on 10 October. Quantas issued an apology, arranged hotel accommodation for stranded passengers, and rebooked them on other flights within two days of the original departure time. The carrier highlighted that cabin cleaning is performed regularly, with antimicrobial agents applied at least once every fifty days, to maintain a high level of passenger safety and comfort.
