Qatar to Acquire Up to Four KC-46A Jets and Support Equipment in $4.5B Deal

Qatar has formally requested the purchase of up to four KC-46A aerial refueling aircraft, a move that the United States has now authorized. The $4.5 billion package comprises the aircraft themselves, eight PW4062 turbofan engines (including four spares), radar warning receivers, infrared counter‑measure systems, and a comprehensive set of maintenance, training, and logistical services.

The agreement also bundles a range of sophisticated components: missile‑warning sensors, cartridge‑actuated devices, propellant‑actuated devices, control interface units, user‑data module cards, electronic warfare database support, KIV‑77 cryptographic modules, KY‑100M crypto terminals, and other essential parts. According to the State Department, integrating these systems into Qatar’s armed forces will be straightforward and will not shift the strategic balance in the region.
