Punjab Bus Crash Kills Five, Injures 27 After Falling Into Nullah

A deadly road accident in Pakistan's Punjab province has claimed five lives and left 27 people injured after a passenger bus slipped into a nullah on Thursday.

According to the emergency service Rescue 1122, the bus went off the road in the Fatehke area of Pindi Bhattian tehsil, Hafizabad district. The bus was travelling from Raiwind towards Chiniot at the time.

Rescue staff said that excessive speed caused the driver to lose control of the bus. Rescue units rushed to the location and started operations immediately. The injured were treated on the site, and 20 of them were sent to hospitals.

The bus was pulled out of the nullah with a crane, with help from local administration. Five bodies were then found under the vehicle. Because there were concerns that more travellers might be trapped in the wreckage, search teams continued working. Five rescue vehicles were part of the effort.

This is the second major bus accident within a week. Last week, a minibus collided with a passenger coach head-on near 'Zero Point' on the Quetta-Karachi highway, close to Uthal in Balochistan, killing 12 passengers and injuring more than 24.

Before that, a passenger bus hit a road divider on the Indus Highway in Rojhan tehsil of Rajanpur district and overturned, killing 10 people and injuring 44 others.

Reports indicate this is the latest in a series of incidents where vehicles have fallen into canals or nullahs. In June 2026, a speeding passenger van plunged into a canal near the Dharampura-Chaubacha crossing in Lahore, injuring seven people.
