Professor Andrew M. Ramroop’s Rise from Island Roots to Global Design

Professor Andrew M. Ramroop, known as a master tailor, narrated his passage from the Caribbean to the United Kingdom at the “Bespoken” book launch. He explained that the transition was fraught with deep‑seated challenges, not only in mastering new techniques but also in confronting stereotypes about his appearance and speech. His breakthrough came when he joined Morris Seavey 52 years ago, completing a three‑year degree in two years and becoming one of a select few graduates. The event, chaired by the Fashion Design Council of India, underscored his role in weaving together the fashion stories of Trinidad and India.
