A prominent pro-Palestine organization in Bangladesh has demanded that the Muhammad Yunus-led interim government distance itself from the controversial Gaza stabilization force. The Palestine Solidarity Committee views any participation as a dangerous departure from Dhaka’s traditional pro-Palestinian policy.
According to local media, the committee sharply criticized National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman’s overtures in the U.S., where he signaled Bangladesh’s willingness to contribute troops, mirroring Pakistan’s approach. This was revealed in a statement from Yunus’s press wing.
Gaza’s dire situation—marked by ongoing bombardments, mass displacement, and crumbling infrastructure—makes military intervention counterproductive, the committee asserts. True resolution lies in political justice and adherence to international law, not armed deployments that could crush Palestinian aspirations.
‘ This force aims to confiscate weapons from freedom fighters while bolstering Israeli security,’ said Professor MD Harun-or-Rashid. He invoked Bangladesh’s liberation struggle to underscore public sentiment against oppression.
Historically, Bangladesh has championed Palestine on global forums, opposing settlements and advocating statehood. Aligning with the stabilization effort risks eroding this credibility. As Middle East tensions dominate headlines, the government remains silent on the appeal, leaving the issue hanging in diplomatic limbo.
