President Trump’s Independence Day address praises founders, space ambitions and voter‑ID reforms
Washington — In a 40‑minute Independence Day oration, President Donald Trump commemorated the United States’ 250th anniversary by weaving together the nation’s historic milestones with a forward‑looking agenda.
Following a weather‑related delay, the president arrived at the National Mall to a gathered crowd of supporters who had returned after the thunderstorm cleared. He expressed gratitude, saying, “Nothing could stop us,” and highlighted the unique character of both the audience and the country.
Trump recited the milestones that defined America: the 1776 Declaration, the Constitution, the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, the westward expansion, industrialization, the two World Wars, the Cold War, and the dawn of the Space Age. He lauded the founders for establishing the principle that “all men are created equal,” and called the Constitution the “most superb political charter in world history.”
The president showcased a procession of historic American flags, each representing a pivotal moment—Yorktown, the Rough Riders, Pearl Harbor, D‑Day, the Korean War, Vietnam, and the fall of communism. He invited war veterans and Medal of Honor recipients onto the stage, honoring them as embodiments of American bravery.
Turning to policy, Trump reiterated his call for stricter election rules: mandatory voter ID, proof of citizenship, and a total ban on mail‑in voting except for narrowly defined emergencies such as illness, disability, military deployment or travel.
A firm anti‑communist stance permeated the speech. He warned that the United States will never become a communist state and described communism as a “cancer” that must be stopped before it spreads.
On the global stage, Trump claimed that the United States had sunk 159 Iranian warships, presenting it as one of the greatest naval triumphs ever recorded.

The president welcomed NASA’s Artemis II crew and Apollo 17 astronaut Jack Schmidt, promising that an American flag will soon be planted on the Moon and later on Mars. Economically, Trump cited a robust stock market, $19.2 trillion in fresh investment, record job growth, a surge in factory construction, and historical highs in retirement savings. He proclaimed Washington “once again a safe and beautiful city.”
