President‑elect Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is set to assume the highest constitutional office of Bangladesh on Friday evening. The ceremony will take place in the Darbar Hall of the presidential palace, Bangabhaban, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed will formally administer the oath of office and confidentiality. Fakhrul’s victory, secured with 255 votes from parliamentarians, reflects the BNP’s renewed strength after decades of dominance by uncontested presidents. The former president, Mohammad Shahabuddin, resigned for health reasons in July, creating the vacancy filled by Fakhrul.
