President‑Elect Fakhrul Visits Savar Memorial, Plants Tree
President‑elect Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir arrived at the National Martyr Memorial in Savar at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, 22 August, marking his first public duty after being sworn in as Bangladesh’s 23rd President.
The oath‑taking ceremony was held the previous evening at Bangabhavan, where Acting President Barrister Kaser Kamal read the oath at 7:37 p.m.
A coordinated guard of honour from the three armed services greeted the President‑elect. The ceremony featured a royal salute and the playing of the “Last Post” on the bugle.
Key dignitaries—including State Minister Ishrak Hussain, Army Chief General Wakil‑Uz‑Jaman, Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmud Khan, and Rear Admiral Khondkar Misbah‑ul‑Azim—stood by as Alfamur laid wreaths, signed the visitor’s log, and planted a sapling to symbolize new beginnings for the nation.
