Political parties link death to historic minority persecution

Leaders of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its Jamaat‑e‑Islami ally recalled the coalition’s 2001‑2006 rule, accusing the current government of repeating past abuses against minorities. They cited attacks on temples, arson, land grabs, sexual violence against women, and forced migration of Hindus as patterns re‑emerging in 2026. The parties argued that silencing Chatterjee, a minority journalist and former bureau chief, is an attempt to erase the historical record of those atrocities.
