In a candid exchange that highlights strengthening Indo-European bonds, Malta’s top diplomat in India has lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s poised demeanor. Speaking exclusively to IANS on January 24, High Commissioner Ruben Gauci portrayed Modi as the epitome of tranquility in leadership.
Recalling his arrival in India more than five years ago, Gauci shared, ‘PM Modi was already steering the nation, and I’ve remained consistently impressed. His ability to foster peace and exercise patience sets him apart. He trusts his path because it’s charted for his people’s welfare.’
The envoy didn’t shy away from acknowledging the enormity of Modi’s responsibilities. ‘Praising leaders of major powers is fitting. India’s vast population makes governance a Herculean task—challenging and relentless—yet he excels.’
Turning to the EU-India Free Trade Agreement, Gauci described it as a monumental negotiation. ‘It’s called the mother of all deals for good reason, uniting two economic giants with diverse activities, production, and investments. EU inflows are crucial for India, generating employment for its massive populace.’
He envisioned broader horizons: ‘The FTA will enable seamless trade in every sector. For Malta, with 114 Indian firms thriving locally, we seek reciprocity. More Maltese investments in India would balance our economic relationship.’
Gauci’s endorsement arrives at a critical juncture for bilateral talks, signaling Malta’s enthusiasm for closer collaboration. Modi’s calm authority, as perceived by global peers, continues to elevate India’s stature on the world stage.
