Pitruda stresses policy, not power, in evaluating billionaire offers
Sam Pitruda, the chief of the Indian Overseas Congress, told IANS that any large‑scale investment from George Soros would be judged against India’s existing policies and development plans. He said the decision‑making process is entirely dependent on the government’s strategic evaluation, not on the prestige of the donor.
"It is a matter for those in power to decide," Pitruda asserted. "If Soros proposes a ten‑billion‑dollar project that serves a public purpose, it will be examined in the context of our current policy framework and budgetary considerations."
The leader also highlighted that he has never met Soros in person, even after years of residence in the United States. He recalled only observing the philanthropist’s public speeches in New York without any direct engagement.
Regarding the influence of other global magnates such as Elon Musk, Pitruda acknowledged that they possess some leverage but operate independently of the political process. He emphasized that each actor – the billionaire, the politician and the citizen – fulfills a distinct role, and no single individual can dictate the direction of a nation as vast as India.
