Phone dialogue between Iran and Iraq foreign ministers covers US attacks and regional security

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein held a telephone discussion that touched on the latest U.S. military actions in the region. The conversation noted that two American soldiers were killed in an Iranian strike, prompting a new series of U.S. air raids targeting Iranian positions in the Hormuz Strait and elsewhere.

Both officials examined the pattern of breaches of the Washington‑Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and Iran’s planned response to what it views as aggression. The ministers stressed that personal or unofficial statements must not compromise the deep‑rooted bilateral relationship that rests on shared historical, cultural and religious ties.

The call also reviewed the impact of the ongoing clashes on regional security, emphasising the need for constant diplomatic coordination, joint development initiatives, and mechanisms to de‑escalate tensions across the Middle East.
