Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong touched down in New Delhi on Monday for high-level Quad engagements and a bilateral dialogue with India’s S Jaishankar. Her trip underscores growing strategic alignment among the Quad nations—Australia, India, Japan, and the US—against the backdrop of shifting global dynamics. Wong described the Quad as essential for delivering practical results in maritime security, critical minerals, infrastructure, and humanitarian assistance. She also highlighted the deepening Australia-India partnership, noting unprecedented levels of cooperation in defense, clean energy, education, and strategic technology. The two ministers will convene the 17th Australia-India Foreign Ministers’ Framework Dialogue, while the full Quad ministerial meeting scheduled for 26 May will assess progress on priority initiatives and discuss recent regional developments. Wong stressed that Australia remains committed to advancing existing and new coalitions as global stability declines. The visit is viewed as a continuation of high-level exchanges that reinforce the Quad’s vision for an open and rules-based Indo-Pacific.
