In a dazzling display of faith, Kathmandu’s Pashupatinath Temple became the epicenter of Maha Shivratri fervor on Sunday. Pilgrims poured in from across Nepal and India, transforming the sacred complex into a sea of saffron robes and fervent prayers.
Ranked among Shiva’s supreme shrines, Pashupatinath draws global devotees annually. This year, crowds swelled rapidly, with lines forming before sunrise. PADT’s Shubhas Chandra Joshi reported 100,000 darshans by mid-morning, crediting early gate openings at 2 a.m. for smooth access.
The atmosphere pulsed with life: saints chanting mantras, Naga sadhus in deep meditation, and families honoring traditions. Around 3,000 ascetics, prominently from India, engaged in austere sadhanas. Special facilities catered to their needs, ensuring comfort amid the throng.
Projections point to 700,000-plus attendees, bolstered by Indian visitors whose exact count is still tallying. PADT’s comprehensive setup—encompassing security, medical aid, and hygiene—kept the event flowing without hitches.
This Maha Shivratri reaffirms Pashupatinath’s magnetic pull, where ancient rituals blend seamlessly with modern management, forging moments of profound spiritual connection for generations.
