Parmar emphasizes strategic ties as Indian diaspora in NZ awaits Modi

Parmar told IANS that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Auckland is “crucial” given the longstanding Indian community that has lived in New Zealand for over a hundred years. She said the diaspora is enthusiastic about the trip and views it as a sign that both governments are eager to collaborate.

The MP argued that the visit will demonstrate the mutual desire to work together, reinforcing a friendship that benefits both sides. She described the upcoming discussions as the beginning of a broader partnership that could address trade, security and people‑to‑people links.

Regarding the FTA, Parmar called it a “significant achievement,” noting that it will foster competition, generate jobs and lower expenses for citizens. She reiterated her party’s support for the pact, emphasizing its role in improving living standards.

Parmar also spoke on India’s economic development, expressing pride in seeing her country of origin surge ahead in various sectors. She cited the nation’s progress in technology, digital infrastructure and inclusive growth as reasons for confidence in a stronger bilateral relationship.

Finally, the MP highlighted the potential for cooperation on geopolitical challenges in the West Asian region, suggesting that a formalized partnership could help maintain peace and stability in the Indo‑Pacific.
