Minister Says KP Terrorism Surge May Trigger Federal Emergency Rule
Islamabad, September 30 – Federal minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry disclosed that Islamabad is giving serious thought to imposing an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under constitutional provision Article 232. The decision is driven by the rapid increase in extremist attacks and the provincial government's alleged failure to halt them. Chaudhry told reporters that the federal government will not let political disputes with the PTI influence the security‑related decision.
PTI is planning a long march to the capital between September 27 and October 4, demanding the release of its jailed founder Imran Khan and a revival of constitutional supremacy. The Shahbaz Sharif‑led federal cabinet has warned that the demonstration could further destabilise law‑and‑order.
Highlighting the sacrifices of police and security forces, Chaudhry claimed the KP administration has become an obstruction to federal anti‑terrorism efforts. He drew a parallel with Balochistan, where the chief minister is actively confronting the terror menace, and affirmed that the Pakistan Peoples Party stands ready to back the federal government if an emergency is declared.
