He cited examples from Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States where similar registration regimes – such as Canada’s Foreign Influence Transparency Act and the U.S. Foreign Agents Registration Act – have been tightened. India’s approach, he said, mirrors these models, aiming for greater accountability without hindering genuine international cooperation or aid.
