Paris Stands Firm: No UN Sanctions Lift for Iran Without Complete Nuclear Disarmament

PARIS – French authorities have once again signalled that the United Nations sanctions imposed on Iran will stay in force until Tehran provides an unequivocal commitment to fully dismantle its nuclear program. Foreign Minister Jean‑Noël Baré told reporters that any notion of sanction relief is unacceptable while the Iranian nuclear agenda persists.

Baré explained that France wishes to remain a proactive participant in any diplomatic dialogue concerning Iran’s nuclear activities. He further stressed that Paris will not endorse any UN Security Council resolution removing the sanctions unless the conditions of a prospective peace settlement involving the United States, Israel and Iran meet French expectations.

As a veto‑holding member of the Security Council, France can block any proposal that attempts to ease the current punitive measures.

In a parallel statement, Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman Ismail Baghei asserted that Iran has approached every negotiation with seriousness and responsibility, consistently putting the nation’s interests and the concerns of its people first. He claimed that Iran has never been the first to breach a pact.

Baghei warned that if the United States fails to honour its pledge to end the conflict, Iran will reciprocate by ignoring the memorandum of understanding it signed with Washington. He also mentioned the Iranian government’s firm intention to seek justice in the matter surrounding the death of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei.
