Over 17,000 People Displaced, 6,462 Rescued After June 24 Quake

Caracas, July 10 — The June 24 earthquake has rendered 17,907 Venezuelans homeless across several states. Temporary evacuation centers have been erected in schools, community halls, and sports complexes to shelter the displaced population.

Rescue agencies report that 6,462 individuals have been successfully extricated from collapsed buildings and hazardous zones. These operations were carried out by a combination of military units, fire brigades, and volunteer groups equipped with heavy‑lifting machinery.

Acting President Delcy Rodriguez highlighted the collaborative effort, noting that international partners contributed not only supplies but also technical expertise in search‑and‑rescue tactics. She emphasized that continued coordination is essential to provide food, clean water, and sanitation to the camps.

The government has launched a registration drive to catalog the needs of each family, aiming to prioritize the most vulnerable, including children, the elderly, and people with disabilities. Plans for longer‑term housing solutions, such as modular units and reconstruction of damaged neighborhoods, are already under discussion.
