Operation Sindoor Fallout: Imran Khan’s Sister Faces Cyber Court Summons

Nureen Niazi, the sister of ex‑prime minister Imran Khan, released a video asserting that Operation Sindoor showcased India's military superiority and exposed the Pakistani army's inability to respond effectively. Her remarks sparked a rapid spread on social media, leading the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency to issue a formal notice.

The agency ordered Nureen to appear at its Islamabad office on July 20, charging her with posting "misleading, offensive and inflammatory" material that allegedly aims to malign state institutions and propagate a false narrative.

The notice explicitly states that failure to appear will be deemed as having no substantive defence, and that ignoring the order may constitute an offence under Section 174 of Pakistan's Penal Code.

While the specific posts prompting the action remain undisclosed, the summons arrived as her video continued to gain traction online. In her interview she described the Pakistani armed forces as "in a terrible condition" following an Indian offensive, noting that the Rawalpindi headquarters, referred to as "Marka‑e‑Haq," descended into panic.

She further claimed that Pakistan's leadership appealed to the global community for a settlement with India, and that former US President Donald Trump, previously neutral, suddenly offered to mediate, attaching conditions such as Pakistan's recognition of Israel.

Nureen said India enjoys close relations with Israel and that Trump used this leverage to push Pakistan toward accepting the Abraham Accords and other stipulations. She added that after the conflict, senior officials like Asim Munir and Shahbaz Sharif staged a "drama" portraying a victory to suppress public backlash against the proposed Israeli recognition.

The development highlights the sensitivity of Pakistan's defence discourse and the authorities' resolve to curb online content they deem destabilising.
